Dec. 23, 2019. Year-end party

After cleaning lab, a year-end party was held at a Korean-style barbecue restaurant. This party also serves as a farewell party for Farouk, who is visiting from France.

Dec. 19-20, 2019. PRMU workshop

At the PRMU workshop held in Oita University, Daichi has presented the research on automatic colorization for anime trace image. In the discussion session, a demonstration was performed.

Dec. 4-6, 2019. Symposium on Shitsukan

A symposium on the Shitsukan was held at Kyoto University, and Prof. Kubo demonstrated a visualizing technique for blood vessels using a time-synchronous projector-camera system.

Nov. 11, 2019. Takayama science town festival

Takayama science town festival was held, and we demonstrated depth estimation using a ToF camera. The demonstration was popular with children.

Nov. 7-8, 2019. CVIM workshop

Hiromu has presented the research on material estimation using a SPAD at the CVIM workshop held at Kyushu Institute of Technology. Since SPAD is still new sensor in the CV field, there were many questions in the oral presentation.

Oct. 29, 2019. Press release

Prof. Mukaigawa and Prof. Kubo made a press release on real-time visualization technology for blood vessel. The demonstration using the arm of Prof. Kubo attracted the attention of various media. Although Nara local, it will be introduced on NHK Nara and Nara television.

Oct. 16, 2019, Welcome party for Yuri

Yuri has joined our lab. She graduated from the faculty of literature and was interested in classical literature. She starts to analyze the visual appearance of old documents. The welcome party was held at the usual Taiwan restaurant.

Sep. 25, 2019. Completion ceremony

Tsuyoshi got a Ph.D. Since the memorial photo should be taken at the memorial place, it was taken in the gym.

Sep. 19, 2019. Farewell party

Since Tsuyoshi completed the three-year doctoral course, Camille completed the one-year internship, and Daisuke completed the two-week internship, we had a farewell party. We presented memorial gifts closely related to each.

Aug. 29-30, 2019. Innovation JAPAN

At Innovation Japan held at Tokyo Big Sight, we exhibited two projector-camera systems that can visualize inside of objects. These two methods have completely different principles, but both of them were interested in many participants.

Aug. 12, 2019. Breakfast meeting at UCLA

Prof. Mukaigawa and Prof. Tanaka staying at the UCLA had a breakfast meeting with Prof. Kadambi. It is said that the popular avocado toast in Japan originated in Los Angeles, and they enjoyed the authentic taste.

Aug. 8-9, 2019. Lab trip

This year, we went to Wakayama as the lab trip. We have enjoyed hot springs, tuna dismantling show, and safari. Unfortunately, Prof. Mukaigawa and Prof. Tanaka were unable to participate because they were in Los Angeles.

Aug. 9, 2019. Visiting Caltech

Prof. Mukaigawa and Prof. Tanaka staying at the UCLA visited Prof. Katie Bauman at the Caltech. She is the first researcher in the world to succeed in visualizing a black hole. The laboratory has just begun and they were the first visitors to the lab space.

Aug. 5-6, 2019. Narakita high school

We accepted ten students as a lab stay from Narakita high school. The students experienced a way to create realistic computer graphics. I would be honored if they were interested in CG research.

Aug. 4-18, 2019. UCLA

Prof. Mukaigawa stays in the laboratory of Prof. Kadambi at the UCLA for two weeks. Prof. Tanaka has already stayed in the same laboratory for half a year, and joint research seems to be progressing considerably.

July 30-Aug. 1, 2019. MIRU2019

MIRU2019 was held and five research results were presented from our lab. Akira received the MIRU Student Encouragement Award.

July 23, 2019. Visitors from France

French students visiting Japan came to our lab. It was a good opportunity for Camille to explain our research activities in French.

June 27-29, 2019. VC2019

At VC2019 held at Waseda University, Tomoki received the Polyphony Digital Award, and Daichi received the Outstanding Poster Presentation Award. Takehiro presented the research result of hyperspectral measurements in an organized session at Visual/Media Computing Conference 2019.

June 26, 2019. Takayama bamboo garden

Since the return of Sreenithy is approaching, we went to enjoy tempura. After the tempura, we visited Takayama bamboo garden. It is said that the national share of Takayama tea muddler is over 90%.

June 13, 2019. Basketball club in Mukaigawa lab

We played basketball as an activity of the basketball club of Mukaigawa lab. Since the rainy season will begin soon, it was a valuable outdoor activity.

June 12-14, 2019. SSII2019

The 25th Symposium on Sensing via Image Information (SSII2019) is held in Yokohama. Prof. Kubo gave a tutorial lecture entitled "The projector-camera system will change!"

June 2, 2019. Studying abroad to France

Kazuya will visit to University of Picardie Jules Verne in France to study and research. He will stay for two months for the collaboration. A photo taken at Paris North Station has arrived.

May 30, 2019, Farewell & Welcome parties

We had a farewell and a welcome parties together since the lab members changed rapidly recently. Jordan from University of Picardie Jules Verne in France will return this weekend. Prof. Jayasuriya from Arizona State University in US stayed for a week.
Sreenithy from Arizona State University and Cyprien from ENSICAEN have joined as new members. We served with Takoyaki.

May 29, 2019, Shabu-shabu dinner

The professors went for a shabu-shabu dinner with Prof. Jayasuriya and Sreenithy of Arizona State University. We will continue collaborative research.

May 23, 2019. Outdoor lunch

Since it has become very warm, we took out the food to the terrace and enjoyed outdoor lunch.

May 18, 2019. Open campus

We held an open campus for students. This time, the new M1 members took the lead in introducing our lab.

May 15-17, 2019. IEEE ICCP2019

Our lab mainly organized the IEEE International Conference on Computational Photography (ICCP 2019). From our lab, Takahiro and Mr. Ueda who graduated last year and now works for Sony presented oral presentations.
Ueda et al. demonstrated the Slope Disparity Gating which can shoot only a specific plane, and received a Demo Award.

May 10, 2019. Welcome party

Eight new M1 students were assigned to the laboratory, and Maxime came from ENSICAEN for internship. We held an annual welcome party for new members.

Apr. 9-17, 2019. Collaborators from France

Our collaborators from University of Picardy Jules Verne and University of Burgundy in France visited our lab. Professors discussed the future research plan.

Apr. 9, 2019. New internship student

Jordan has joined our lab as an internship student from France. He will stay until the end of May.

Mar. 26, 2019. Visit of Mr. Asada

Mr. Asada, who is a first-generation student of our laboratory and working for Mitsubishi Electric, came visited our lab. We were told about his current job.

Mar. 22, 2019. Degree award ceremony

Dr. Iwaguchi who is the first generation doctor course student and six master course students had a degree award ceremony. We look forward to their success.

Mar. 14-16, 2019.

The research presentation by Ryota from University of Hyogo, who stayed for internship last summer, received the Student Encouragement Award of IPSJ National Convention held at Fukuoka University. It is a great success despite staying for only one month.
At the special session of "Thesis Winning Method" on the second day, Prof. Mukaigawa gave a keynote speech entitled "Good ingredients and excellent cooking methods". This appearance will be published as a cartoon.

Mar. 13, 2019. Visiting of Mr. Iwaguchi

Mr. Iwaguchi who is working for AutoNetworks Technologies, Ltd. came to introduce the parent company, Sumitomo Electric. This photo is a two-shot with Takahiro who joined our lab in the same year.

Mar. 13, 2019. innovation in SHITSUKAN

The project meeting of the innovation in SHITSUKAN was held at Awaji Yumebutai, Takafumi demonstrated the Shitsukan measurement using the synchronized projector-camera system. The measurement results can also be applied to CG.

Mar. 9, 2019. Miraikan

At the Miraikan (National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation), we showed some graphics technologies on the spherical display for children. This is the second outreach activity. This time, we demonstrated a stereoscopic vision using ChromaDepth™ glasses.

Mar. 8, 2019. Mini reunion

As Prof. Mukaigawa, Prof. Funatomi, and Prof. Kubo came to Tokyo to prepare for the next day's event at the Miraikan, we held a mini reunion in Tokyo. Despite sudden contact, many graduates came. The co-researchers from Mitsubishi Electric also joined.

Mar. 7-8, 2019. CVIM workshop

The CVIM workshop was held at Toho Univ. Yuta presented a research on the time-domain correlation imaging. This research analyzes the difference in the appearance of a normal camera and a ToF camera.
Kohei presented a new photography technique of "Repanning". This enables us to easily achieve panning.

Mar. 4, 2019. Visiting to Yanmar

Prof. Mukaigawa, Prof. Funatomi, and Tetsuro visited the Maibara R&D Center of Yanmar for meeting on collaborative research and field visit. This huge tractor is driven by Prof. Mukaigawa.

Feb. 25-26, 2019. Spring seminar

We have conducted a spring seminar to experience a technique for measuring reflection properties from real objects and regenerating the reflection properties by CG.

Feb. 23, 2019. Open campus

We held an open campus. This time, 50 students visited our lab. It was new record. Let's study together!

Feb. 22, 2019. Departure of Prof. Tanaka

Prof. Tanaka will stay at UCLA (University of California Los Angeles) for one year. We sent off on the last day.

Feb. 16, 2019. Okuibuki Snow Resort

Some of the lab-mates went to Okuibuki Snow Resort. We were worried about raining but fortunately the condition was good to enjoy skiing. On the way to go home, we went to a public bath and ramen restaurant as usual.

Feb. 13, 2019. Party

We celebrated the successful completion of the master's thesis presentations. At the same time, we held a party for the success of Prof. Tanaka's long-term business trip. We served Italian pasta and raw ham.

Jan. 25, 2019. Visit of Ms. Tsuda

Ms. Tsuda who is working for HITACHI visited our lab. We are happy to hear a lot from the graduate.

Jan. 17-18, 2019. Workshop of CVIM/PRMU/MVE/SIG-MR/PoTS

The workshop of CVIM/PRMU/MVE/SIG-MR/PoTS was held at Kyoto Terrsa. Some students in our lab also participated for operation.

Jan. 15, 2019. The third generation students, too

Mr. Tsubota and Mr. Nishikawa who are working for Panasonic visited our lab. They meet Mr. Kitano after so long. The third generation students also had a small alumni association.

Jan. 11, 2019. The first generation students

Mr. Mihara and Mr. Ono who are working for SONY visited our lab. Mr. Okamoto who is working for YANMAR also visited on the same day. Since Mr. Iwaguchi is in the lab, three of five first generation students gathered. It's a small alumni association.
